Prayer Blog for August 13-Heroes of the Faith

In the 1960’s Dr. Henry Morris wrote a ground breaking book called The Genesis Flood.  This was one of the first “creation science” books.  In the book Dr. Morris explained how science can help explain the flood of Noah.  God triggered the flood, but he also used many natural forces to produce a chain reaction that inundated the earth.  He also showed how the geological record we see today is the evidence of a vast flood.  Rather than just sit back and let evolutionists make more and more outlandish claims, he answered with a biblical and scientific argument.

He led a movement where hundreds of PHD scientists would share their research.  The organization he founded is called Institute for Creation Research.  Along with Dr. Whitcomb and Dr. Gish, the organization began publishing and also debating on college campuses across America.  1983 saw a change in my life when I heard one such scientist in Columbus.  I had had classes at Ohio State that showed how shaky the evolutionary theory had been.  But in one day, a man named Walter Brown demolished the theory with reason and evidence.

ICR spawned other organizations such as Ken Ham’s Answers in Genesis.  Most scientists were believers until the late 1800’s.  There are still many scientists who are believers and who stand against the evolutionary bandwagon which has become the status quo.  These qualified scientists have been systematically shut out of the debate.  Despite the fact that the evolutionary theory has largely been disproved and is increasingly a faith-based quasi religion, the theory has been propped up by dubious suppositions.

God’s word is clear about the creation from the very first chapter of Genesis to passages like Psalm 19:

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.  There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.  Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.

A recent song also captures the wonder of creation:

God of Wonders beyond our galaxy, you are holy, holy

The universe displays your majesty, you are holy, holy

Lord of heaven and earth.

Lord of all creation, of water earth and sky

The Heavens are your tabernacle

Glory to the Lord on high!

Dr. Morris died in 2006, but left a great legacy of scientists and students.  He also wrote commentaries on the books of Genesis and Revelation.  Ken Ham went on to found the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in Kentucky.  These men are heroes who dare to go against the prevailing culture.  They also remind us that the world once again lives “as in the days of Noah”.

Thank you Lord, for creation science leaders like Dr. Henry Morris who follow the facts where they lead.  Thank you for using them to help us see past the humanistic glasses that so many wear.  Thank you for discoveries in biology, geology and astronomy and physics that confirm your Design and Plan.  Let us not be tempted to compromise with ever changing theories that have eliminated the supernatural from any equation before even examining the evidence.

Father, thank you that your Word is true, no matter how many may question it.  Help our culture to realize the difference between fact and theory and to be skeptical of the vested interests of evolutionary scientists.

Thank you for the truth that is available to those who have eyes to see.  Help us avoid the trap of believing in a self-existent world rather than the self-existent eternal Creator.  Thank You that You were in the beginning, have always been and will always be.  Thank You that You are Father, Son and Spirit, the Alpha and o\Omega, beginning and the end.  In Jesus’ Name we pray.
