Tie a Knot and Hang On! (10/29)
Mark Barbee

You know the old saying, “When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!”  With God’s help, we can hang on because help is on the way.  That means we sometimes have to wait a bit.  “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles.  They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”  Is. 40:31 That’s always a good verse to confess.  Wait for help from on high, the Savior, the Deliverer, Jesus the Anointed One and God’s Strong Right Hand.

Invite Jesus to meet with you.  Have him in for your morning coffee!  Open His Word.  Read the Red Letters (His words).  Let Him speak.  Is. 30:15 reminds us that “In quietness and rest is your salvation—our help is in the name of the Lord.”  And Psalm 46 reminds us to “Be still and know that I am God…I will be exalted in the heavens, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Ignore the voice of accusation and condemnation.  Hear “the voice of truth that tells a different story”.  Listen for the “still small voice” that Elijah heard when the Lord said, “I still have 7,000 in Israel that have not bowed the knee to Baal.”

Say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust…for he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.”

Stand and see the salvation of the Lord.”  These were Moses’ words to the children of Israel at the Red Sea.  Centuries later Jehoshaphat told the people to “take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.”  He told them to sing.

Sing.  “Then they began to sing and praise and the Lord set ambushes against their enemies.” II Chron. 20   These are great verses for trying days.  May you be blessed by them.

We are back in worship with 60% of our folks.  What a blessing.  “I was glad when they said to me, let us go up to the house of the Lord.”  We are still socially distancing.  Come when you can.  I have a prayer and then the words to a great song by MercyMe.

Lord, thank you that though we have to be more distanced than usual with each other, you are as close as ever.  You are waiting for our invitation to join us with our coffee (or any other devotion time).  Thank you that you will speak to us through your Word and through your still small voice.  We pray that your voice of truth will drown out the fears and lies from the Enemy.

Lord, we thank you that though our country is divided, there are still millions who have not bowed to false idols.  Lord, we thank you that we can take refuge until the storms pass by.  But we also pray for faith to stand when necessary to see your salvation at work.  Be with our brothers and sisters who are at this very moment taking a stand.

Lord, we pray for strength as we confess your word and as we sing praises to you Name.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I’m finding myself at a loss for words, and the funny thing is, it’s okay.       The last thing I need is to be heard, but to hear what You would say.

Word of God speak, would you pour down like rain                                              Washing my eyes to see your Majesty

To be still and know that you’re in this place                                                    Please let me stay and rest in your holiness

Word of God speak!

Finding myself in the midst of You, beyond the music, beyond the noise                            All that I need is to be with You, and in the quiet hear your voice

Word of God speak…..
