Prayer for Truth and Justice (3/17/22)
Mark Barbee

A week ago I had the opportunity to lead a prayer segment at the Statehouse with a number of other pastors and prayer people. There were about 60 present and we praised and prayed up a storm. The presence of the Lord was very evident as we prayed in the beautiful Atrium. It was very encouraging to me to be a part of it. Sponsored by the Center for Christian Virtue, it was a great cross section of men and women from various denominations, both black and white churches across much of the state of Ohio. These gatherings take place quarterly and I plan on attending as often as possible. We often have a chance to pray for specific state representatives and senators who stop by for a few minutes. Here is the prayer from my segment that the Lord gave me earlier that morning:

Lord, how we love you. Lord, how we need you. Thank you that truth comes from you: from your eternal nature and your commandments. The law came through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Remind us and all leaders, that justice is blind. In the words of Amos and echoed by Martin Luther King- “let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream.” Roll on, Lord…in this statehouse, across this state, roll on across this nation and to ends of the earth.

Lord, forgive us for accepting false definitions- for your truth is universal, not mine or someone else’s. Jesus came to testify to the truth—he is the Son of God, he is the way, the truth and the life.

Only with his help can we find truth and achieve justice! We thank you for democracy, but it can only function when people believe in your kingdom over and above all.

May the legislature pass just laws and may there be justice for those who keep the law, those who enforce the law, and those who break the law.

May the Holy Spirit who was with you in creation, in the life of Jesus and in our lives today make us instruments of truth and justice to those around us.

Because with your truth and justice, we find peace. May there be justice for all people, born and unborn. For all ethnicities and all who believe your holy Word. Thank you for many legislators in this building who stand for life and the rights of the unborn. Give them courage to stand and not waver.

We continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and their defense from Russian aggression. Bring your supernatural help and justice to the matter. May they not rely just on military, but turn to you for long term help.

Thank you that Jesus took our punishment on the cross and that he rose again to give us eternal life. It’s in His Name we pray, Amen.
